Alpaca Throws Handmade In Peru

The Feel of Alpaca
Alpaca is one of the softest natural fibers, with a smooth, refined feel against the skin. Our 100% Baby Alpaca throws use the finest fiber we work with, while our Alpaca Blend throws are made for everyday comfort. An alpaca blanket gives natural warmth without bulk: light enough to keep on a sofa or bed year-round, yet warm on cold nights. Alpaca fiber is also naturally free of lanolin, the natural oil found in sheep's wool.

Handmade in the Andes
Each throw is produced in small batches, and only a limited number of each design exist at any time. The artisans who make them work in the Andes of Peru, where these weaving techniques have been passed down for generations. No two pieces are ever quite identical: each throw blanket carries the individual hand, rhythm, and creative choices of the artisan who made it.

Care
Both our 100% Baby Alpaca and Alpaca Blend throws should be spot cleaned, and dry cleaned when needed. Never put an alpaca throw in a washing machine or dryer. Between cleanings, airing your throw in a cool, well-ventilated spot is often enough to refresh it. For step-by-step instructions, see "How to Clean Alpaca Fur Toys" on our Peruvian Artisans Blog.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between 100% Baby Alpaca and Alpaca Blend?

100% Baby Alpaca throws are made entirely from fine baby alpaca fiber, valued for its softness and light, fluid drape. Alpaca Blend throws combine alpaca fiber with companion fibers for everyday resilience and structure.
How do I clean an alpaca throw blanket?

Spot clean spills by blotting with a cloth dampened in cool water and a drop of wool-safe detergent, and dry clean when it needs a full cleaning. Do not put it in a washing machine or dryer.
What's the difference between a hand-knitted and a hand-loomed alpaca throw?

Hand-knitted throws are made using knitting needles, which creates a thicker fabric with more visible texture. Hand-loomed throws, like ours, are woven on a loom, producing a flatter, more refined texture.
Who makes Inspired Peru's alpaca throws?

Each throw is hand-loomed by an individual artisan from one of our artisan families in the Andes of Peru, and ships with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by that artisan.
Where do Inspired Peru throws ship from?

All orders ship from the United States, with free shipping to the continental US.
