Genuine Alpaca Fiber — Peru
The Authentic Alpaca Collection: Handmade Luxury from the Andes
Welcome to our collection of handmade alpaca stuffed animals, where Peruvian heritage meets modern craftsmanship. At Inspired Peru, we don't just create plush toys; we craft heirloom-quality companions from genuine alpaca fiber. Every piece in our collection — from our Jumbo 16-inch bears to our vibrant Rainbow Lions — is handcrafted by our 35+ artisan-owned family cooperatives in the Andes.
The Huacaya vs. Suri Distinction
To help you find the perfect texture, we categorize our collection by the two primary breeds of alpaca:
- Huacaya Alpaca Fiber: Known for its dense, springy, cloud-like volume. Huacaya is the classic choice for those seeking a squeezable teddy bear experience.
- Suri Alpaca Fiber: Suri alpacas are often cited as under 10% of the global alpaca population. Suri fiber is often referred to as the "Silk of the Andes" because of its distinctive, shimmering, waterfall drape.
About Our Alpaca Fiber
Every piece in our collection is handcrafted in Peru by our artisan-owned cooperatives using genuine alpaca fiber — never synthetic, never mass-produced.
We work with two fiber types: Huacaya, prized for its dense, cloud-like volume — the fiber behind every Cloud Touch bear in our collection; and Suri, often cited as under 10% of the world's alpaca population, known for its silky, waterfall drape.
Our natural, undyed pieces are made from first-shearing fiber — among the softest grades available, harvested once from young alpacas in the Andean highlands of Peru.
Each companion is built to be passed down, not discarded.
Fair Trade & Andean Tradition
Our fiber is sourced directly from Andean herder families who have raised alpacas for generations. We work directly with artisan families — every purchase supports artisan livelihoods at the source. By choosing Inspired Peru, you are directly supporting a group of 35+ artisan families across Cusco and Puno, ensuring fair-trade wages and the preservation of traditional Peruvian craftsmanship.
Genuine alpaca stuffed animals are created using materials that have been central to Andean craft traditions since the time of the Inca — reflecting the resource-conscious craft traditions of highland communities.
Our natural, undyed alpaca fiber is lanolin-free and free from synthetic finishing treatments. Our Rainbow collection is hand-dyed by our artisans, applied patch by patch to each color section — we don't claim the dyed pieces carry the same natural-fiber properties as our undyed pieces.
Genuine Natural Fiber
Our natural, undyed baby alpaca fiber is naturally hypoallergenic, lanolin-free, and free from synthetic finishing treatments — qualities that come from the fiber itself, not a manufacturing process. Every natural fiber piece is first-shearing Huacaya baby alpaca, hand-stitched in Peru by our 35+ indigenous artisan families with no factory involvement.
Construction & Artisan Quality
Each animal features either glass safety eyes, hand-set and securely anchored, or embroidered eyes worked directly into the fiber with no separate component to detach. One artisan completes the construction of each piece, and every piece ships with a signed Certificate of Authenticity. Always check the specific age recommendation listed on each product page. For a full breakdown of eye construction and age recommendations, see our Safety & Construction Guide, and for the complete artisan process, see How Alpaca Stuffed Animals Are Made.
Choosing the Right Size

Care Instructions
Spot clean with cool water and a mild, fragrance-free soap. Never machine wash or tumble dry. Reshape gently while damp and allow to air dry flat. With proper care, your alpaca companion can last for years.
