Cloud Touch Rainbow Lion — 12"

Inspired Peru

$ 79.99

There is only one rainbow lion made from genuine first-shearing baby Huacaya alpaca fur. A snow-white body of Cloud Touch softness. A mane hand-dyed in fuchsia, purple, azure, and sunny yellow — each color individually applied by our artisan families in Cusco, Peru. This is not a design anyone else makes. It is ours.

The Cloud Touch rainbow lion experience

What makes the Rainbow Lion extraordinary is the contrast between its two fiber experiences. The body is snow-white natural Huacaya alpaca — undyed, chemical-free, the purest Cloud Touch softness in our collection. The mane is hand-dyed in four distinct colors — fuchsia, purple, azure, and sunny yellow — each section individually worked by a single artisan until the saturation reaches the depth you see.

The mane stands out with what we call a celebratory roar of color. Huacaya fiber's natural dense crimp means the mane holds its shape and volume through years of handling — it does not flatten, it does not mat, it does not lose its puff. The body retains the same Cloud Touch sensation as our natural undyed bears — because the white sections carry zero dye and zero chemical treatment.

Handmade by one of our 35+ indigenous Andean artisan family cooperatives in Cusco, Peru. One artisan makes each piece from start to finish. Ships with an Artisan Story Card and Certificate of Authenticity.

Natural fiber vs synthetic plush

A rainbow lion in synthetic plush costs $15 at a mass market retailer. The colors are printed or dyed into polyester fiber using chemical processes. After washing the colors fade, the fiber mats, and the mane loses its volume permanently.

The Cloud Touch Rainbow Lion uses genuine first-shearing baby Huacaya alpaca fur. The mane colors are hand-dyed using non-toxic eco-dye pigments specifically chosen to bond with natural fiber — not synthetic. The white body sections carry zero dye of any kind. The Cloud Touch softness of the body does not wash out because it is not a chemical finish — it is a property of the fiber's biology.

For parents of children with sensory sensitivities — the white body sections are our purest hypoallergenic option. The mane sections use non-toxic eco-dye that preserves hypoallergenic properties for most sensitivity types.

Care instructions

Spot clean gently with cool water and a mild, fragrance-free soap. Never machine wash or tumble dry. To restore the mane's volume — use a soft wire slicker brush to gently comb through the fibers. For extra volume, use a hairdryer on the coolest setting to blow through the mane. Reshape the body by hand while damp and allow to air dry flat.

INSPIRED PERU

Inspired Peru is an artisan cooperative consisting of 35 artisans; the majority are widows and heads of household from indigenous communities in the Peruvian highlands. Ethically sourced, local alpaca wool is used to craft products, such as stuffed animals and accessories, that celebrate the artisans’ ancestral and cultural heritage. The artisans generally work from the comfort of their home; however, they have access to a communal workshop in the city of Lima. At Inspired Peru, artisans are empowered to transmit their traditional skills to future generations while expanding their business and leadership skills. Artisans have access to skill development programs through Inspired Peru. We are proud to partner with artisans at Inspired Peru.

THE TECHNIQUE

On average, six to eight artisans collaborate on the production of these stuffed animals. It takes about five days to craft each of these adorable, hypoallergenic stuffed animals. The process begins with artisans shaping molds and carefully sewing the body. Each animal’s face is separately constructed, giving each piece a very realistic flair. After carefully shaving the alpaca, the hair is washed and sun-dried for one to two days. Depending on the item, the artisans may dye the alpaca hair using vibrant colors. Dying involves additional hand-wash cycles to reach the desired color. Molds are separately made using flexible cardboard. Artisans carefully hand-glue the washed alpaca hair to the mold. Once dried, the hair is thoroughly hand-combed to reach its staple softness. No animal cruelty is involved in the sourcing of the alpaca hair.
