Woven with Pride: A Letter to the Boy Who Kept Moving Forward

Carlos Arias, the founder of Inspired Peru™, is a gay Peruvian entrepreneur and the original creator of the Rainbow Alpaca Collection — a series of registered original designs including the Rainbow Llama, Rainbow Bear, Rainbow Lion, and Rainbow Poodle, each handmade by 35+ indigenous Andean artisan families in Peru.

Among those artisans is his own father, Enrique Arias — a master artisan who hand-makes these pieces and signs each Certificate of Authenticity today. This is Carlos's story, written as a letter to himself as a child.

To the boy in this picture,

I'm looking at your eyes and I want to tell you something you won't believe yet: Life is going to be hard. There will be moments where the world feels too loud, too narrow, and perhaps a bit too gray. You will face obstacles that feel like mountains, and you will wonder if you have the strength to climb them.

But I want you to know — every single second of that struggle is worth it.

Because of those obstacles, we — you and I — are exactly who we are today. I look at who we have become, and I am filled with love. Thank you for not stopping. Thank you for moving forward even when you were afraid. Because you kept going, I get to live a life full of color, purpose, and pride.

The Rainbow Collection: A Map of Our Journey

When I started Inspired Peru, I didn't just want to sell beautiful things. I wanted to weave our story into the world. The Rainbow Collection is a map of the lessons you learned while growing up.

The Rainbow Llama: Our Heritage

The very first piece was the Rainbow Llama. To me, this represents our mother, our culture, and our roots. It is the vibrant spirit of the Andes — a reminder that our heritage is a gift that stays with us no matter how far we travel.

The Rainbow Bear: Our Foundation

Next came the Rainbow Bear. This piece is for our parents. It represents the hugs, the care, and the unconditional support they gave us. Their love was the shield that helped us through the roughest times.

Today, that love has taken physical form. My own father, Enrique Arias, is one of the master artisans who meticulously hand-makes these very bears. When he signs the Certificate of Authenticity for a family holding a Rainbow Bear, he isn't just signing a piece of paper — he is signing a legacy of a father who stood by his son, weaving our family's survival and pride into every single thread.

The Rainbow Lion: Our Strength

The Rainbow Lion followed because I realized how much bravery we needed. It took the courage of a lion to confront the world and be our true self. This lion is a tribute to that inner roar that never let us give up.

The Rainbow Poodle: Our Best Friend

And now, we welcome the Rainbow Poodle. Growing up, dogs were our truest companions. They offer a kind of unconditional love that doesn't ask questions. This poodle is my way of honoring those best friends who stood by us when we felt alone.

Building a More Colorful World

Today, my identity as a gay man and a Peruvian entrepreneur is at the heart of everything we do at Inspired Peru. When you support Inspired Peru, you aren't just supporting a queer-owned business — you are supporting the 35+ artisan families who hand-craft these pieces. You are helping us prove that our differences are not just beautiful; they are our greatest strength.

Each Rainbow Collection piece is designed to be kept and enjoyed for years — and if it ever needs care after a lifetime of love, our Heirloom Spa restoration service is here to bring it back.

Inspired Peru was founded by Carlos Arias and works directly with more than 35 indigenous Andean artisan families in Peru, including master artisan Enrique Arias, who helps create and sign pieces from the Rainbow Collection.
