Pick it up and you'll understand immediately why this one is different. The Cloud Touch softness of first-shearing baby alpaca fur — alive with hand-dyed color, made by the 35 artisan families who invented this design.
The Cloud Touch rainbow experience
The Original Rainbow Alpaca Llama delivers Cloud Touch hypoallergenic sensory comfort in a form that has never existed anywhere else — because we created it.
Each llama is built patch by patch from genuine first-shearing baby alpaca fur — the finest grade of Huacaya alpaca fiber, taken from the first shearing of young alpacas raised in the high-altitude Andes. This is not blended fiber. Not discarded fiber. Not machine-processed. It is the rarest, softest grade of alpaca in existence, hand-selected for color saturation, individually eco-dyed using non-toxic pigments, and hand-glued to a shaped form by a single artisan over five or more days of focused labor.
The result: a 12-inch companion that is cloud-soft against skin, naturally hypoallergenic, lanolin-free, and chemical-free. Safe for children of all ages including infants. Vivid enough to anchor a nursery. Precise enough to be a collector's piece.
This multi-color patch design was created by Inspired Peru — a 100% artisan-owned collective of 35+ indigenous Andean families in the Peruvian highlands. It has since been widely imitated by others. Ours remains the only version made by the hands that invented it, from the fiber grade that the design was built around.
It is a Registered Visual Artwork (© Inspired Peru). When you purchase from us, you receive the original — complete with an Artisan Story Card and Certificate of Authenticity.

Why not all rainbow llamas are equal
Since this design was created, versions of the rainbow alpaca llama have appeared across every price point — from $25 mass-market plush with printed color, to $35–$50 handmade versions using lower-grade or discarded alpaca fiber. In a photograph, they can all look similar.
In your hands, they are not the same thing at all.
First-shearing baby alpaca fur is the only grade that produces the Cloud Touch sensation this design was built for. It is naturally hollow-cored, which gives it warmth without weight and softness without any synthetic feel. The hand-dyed color patches in genuine baby alpaca hold their saturation and their texture differently than anything processed from lower-grade fiber.
Construction matters too. Some alpaca stuffed animals sold online use cheap grey fabric filler that flattens and lumps over time. We use premium Poly-Fil fiberfill — the same certified hypoallergenic fill used in quality bedding — so every llama maintains its shape and softness for years. And unlike versions with plastic button or snap-in eyes, this llama uses hand-knitted eyes with zero detachable parts, eliminating the choking hazard risk that has led to industry-wide recalls on competing products.
These are not small differences. They are the entire difference. The original was designed around this specific fiber and this specific standard of construction. That is what a Certificate of Authenticity means here.
Construction & safety
Fill: Premium Poly-Fil certified hypoallergenic fiberfill. Uniform, resilient, and chemical-free. We never use the cheap grey fabric off-cuts some manufacturers use to reduce costs. The result is consistent softness and even weight that holds its shape through years of daily use.
Eyes: Hand-knitted — no plastic components of any kind. No button eyes. No snap-in parts. Nothing that can detach. Safe for all ages including infants. Meets the strictest CPSC child safety standards.
Seams: Hand-finished and reinforced. Every piece is personally inspected by the artisan family who made it before it ships.
We know exactly what goes inside these animals because we know the 35+ artisan families who make them — and we have worked alongside them in their workshops in Peru.
Care & more
Spot clean gently with cool water and a mild, fragrance-free soap. Never machine wash or tumble dry. Reshape by hand while damp and allow to air dry flat. First-shearing baby alpaca retains its Cloud Touch softness and hypoallergenic properties indefinitely with proper care.

Inspired Peru is an artisan cooperative consisting of 35 artisans; the majority are widows and heads of household from indigenous communities in the Peruvian highlands. Ethically sourced, local alpaca wool is used to craft products, such as stuffed animals and accessories, that celebrate the artisans’ ancestral and cultural heritage. The artisans generally work from the comfort of their home; however, they have access to a communal workshop in the city of Lima. At Inspired Peru, artisans are empowered to transmit their traditional skills to future generations while expanding their business and leadership skills. Artisans have access to skill development programs through Inspired Peru. We are proud to partner with artisans at Inspired Peru.

THE TECHNIQUE
On average, six to eight artisans collaborate on the production of these stuffed animals. It takes about five days to craft each of these adorable, hypoallergenic stuffed animals. The process begins with artisans shaping molds and carefully sewing the body. Each animal’s face is separately constructed, giving each piece a very realistic flair. After carefully shaving the alpaca, the hair is washed and sun-dried for one to two days. Depending on the item, the artisans may dye the alpaca hair using vibrant colors. Dying involves additional hand-wash cycles to reach the desired color. Molds are separately made using flexible cardboard. Artisans carefully hand-glue the washed alpaca hair to the mold. Once dried, the hair is thoroughly hand-combed to reach its staple softness. No animal cruelty is involved in the sourcing of the alpaca hair.
