Archive No. 114 — Sold | Hand-Loomed Cusco Highlands

No. 114 is the classic Frazada — the one that started it all. Natural cream and wheat stripes, teal accent lines, and bold fuchsia — the three-color palette of the Cusco highlands tradition at its most pure and balanced. A scalloped teal whipstitch edge finishes it with the same ceremonial detail seen in the finest pieces of the archive. This piece has sold. What you see below is its archival record.

Archival record

No. 114 represents the Frazada in its most archetypal form — the vertical stripe layout that has defined Cusco highlands weaving for generations. Natural cream and wheat fields form the dominant register, anchored by teal accent stripes that carry the color of the Andean sky, and fuchsia lines that cut through both with the intensity characteristic of highland ceremonial textiles.

The palette of No. 114 is not bold in the way of No. 106 or No. 111 — it is balanced. The cream softens the teal. The fuchsia gives it life. The three colors exist in a relationship that the weaver understood intuitively — the same relationship that has defined Andean stripe textiles for over a thousand years.

The scalloped teal whipstitch edge finishes the piece with a ceremonial detail that echoes the teal accent stripes in the body — a compositional decision that gives No. 114 a coherence and completeness that standard utility Frazadas do not have. Hand-loomed in the Cusco highlands on a traditional backstrap loom. The piece has been washed. Sold — now part of a private collection.
