Frazada No. 105 — Terracotta & Rose Diamond Vintage Peruvian Rug
Vintage Frazada
Frazada Rug
Archive No. 105 — One of a Kind | Hand-Loomed Cusco Highlands
The diamond weave on No. 105 does not repeat — it radiates. A full-coverage all-over geometric field hand-loomed in the Cusco highlands from 100% hand-spun Peruvian sheep wool. Time has done something extraordinary to the terracotta and rose pigments here — softening them into a cohesive, muted palette that no new textile can manufacture. This is what quiet luxury actually looks like.
Provenance & archival notes
No. 105 was admitted into the archive for two reasons — its exceptional scale and the rhythmic precision of its full-coverage diamond weave. The all-over geometric field is uncommon in surviving Frazadas of this era. Most weavers produced striped variations. A full-coverage diamond pattern of this consistency and density suggests a highly skilled weaver operating at the height of their technical ability.
Hand-loomed in the Cusco highlands on a traditional backstrap loom. The weaver ties the loom to a fixed point and uses their own body as the tension mechanism — which is why the width of every Frazada reflects the human scale of its maker. The central union seam on No. 105 is that record — two panels woven separately, hand-joined at the center with a preserved pink crocheted perimeter binding that remains intact.
Originally engineered as a heavy-duty thermal barrier for high-altitude Andean winters. Decades of authentic use and exposure to the mountain elements have softened the terracotta and rose pigments into a cohesive, muted register — an heirloom patina that mass production cannot replicate. Acquired directly from Cusco, Peru. One of a kind — when this piece sells, it is gone.
Curator's notes
- Geometric complexity: Selected for the rare full-field diamond motif — a weaver-intensive pattern uncommon in standard archival textiles of this era. The rhythmic precision of the pattern across the full 72" x 52" field indicates exceptional technical mastery.
- Tonal softening: Naturally aged pigments provide a muted terracotta and rose palette ideally suited for quiet luxury, warm minimalism, and wabi-sabi interiors. The fading is uniform — evidence of consistent, authentic use rather than damage.
- Spatial application: At 72" x 52" this is one of the largest pieces in the archive — adaptable for large-scale floor placement and architectural wall mounting in high-ceiling spaces.
Interior design application
No. 105 is the quiet luxury piece — it earns attention through texture and restraint rather than color. The muted terracotta and dusty rose palette performs best in warm minimalist, wabi-sabi, and organic modern interiors where the geometry of the weave becomes the focal point. It disappears into maximalist rooms — it commands minimalist ones.
At 72" x 52" this is one of the larger pieces in the archive. It functions well as a primary area rug in a bedroom, living room, or dining space. Hung vertically it becomes a monumental textile work — the full-coverage diamond pattern reads as architectural at this scale.
Recommended companion objects: honed travertine, matte plaster textures, raw oak furniture. The terracotta and rose register performs exceptionally well against neutral warm-toned interior palettes and natural wood textures in their unfinished state.
Use cases: primary area rug · bedroom anchor · wall hanging · layered over natural jute · dining room statement · architectural textile work

Care & conservation
Hand-spun sheep wool is naturally soil-resistant and durable. For routine care shake gently outdoors and air periodically in indirect sunlight. Spot clean only with cool water and a mild pH-neutral wool detergent — never hot water or harsh chemicals as the organic dyes may bleed. Avoid high-suction vacuuming directly on the surface. Professional dry cleaning only if necessary — specialist in antique or oriental textiles only. Never machine wash or tumble dry.
This piece has survived decades of authentic use in the Andean highlands. With proper care it will outlast most things in your home.
