Frazada No. 107 — Rose & Berry Diamond Eye Vintage Peruvian Rug

Frazada Rug
Archive No. 107 — One of a Kind | Hand-Loomed Cusco Highlands
At 75" x 63" No. 107 is the largest piece in the archive — and the most quietly commanding. A continuous diamond eye weave that transitions from soft rose to deep berry across the full field, hand-loomed in the Cusco highlands from 100% hand-spun Peruvian sheep wool. No abrupt color breaks. No striped interruptions. Just a gradient that the weaver built stitch by stitch across an expanse most modern looms could not attempt.
Provenance & archival notes
No. 107 was admitted into the archive for the complexity of its diamond eye motif and the exceptional scale at which it is executed. The eye diamond — a pattern where each diamond contains a smaller diamond at its center — is one of the most technically demanding patterns in the backstrap loom tradition. Maintaining the rhythm of that nested geometry across 75 inches of continuous field, while simultaneously building a rose-to-berry color gradient, indicates a weaver of exceptional ability.
Hand-loomed in the Cusco highlands on a traditional backstrap loom. The central union seam on No. 107 is particularly well-preserved — the diamond pattern aligns perfectly across the join, which is rare in surviving pieces of this scale. That alignment required the weaver to plan and execute both panels with exact symmetry before joining them by hand.
Originally engineered as a heavy-duty thermal barrier for Andean winters. Decades of authentic use have naturally aged the rose and berry pigments to a supple, soft-focus quality — an heirloom patina that anchors a room without overwhelming it. Acquired directly from Cusco, Peru. One of a kind — when this piece sells, it is gone.
Curator's notes
- Technical mastery: Selected for the complexity of the diamond eye motif — a weaver-intensive nested pattern that requires maintaining exact geometric rhythm across a continuous 75-inch field. One of the most technically demanding patterns in the backstrap loom tradition.
- Chromatic transition: The rose-to-berry gradient offers a rare soft-focus aesthetic — color that shifts gradually across the field rather than striping abruptly. This gradient is built into the weave itself, not printed or dyed after the fact.
- Heirloom patina: Naturally aged to a supple hand-feel, making it suitable for high-traffic living areas or as a monumental wall installation. The tonal softening is uniform — evidence of consistent authentic use rather than damage or fading.
Interior design application
No. 107 is the piece for a room that needs both scale and softness. The rose-to-berry gradient is warm enough to anchor a living space without the visual weight of a saturated solid color. It performs best in romantic, bohemian, warm minimalist, and organic modern interiors where the gentle color shift and diamond geometry become the room's defining texture.
At 75" x 63" this is the largest piece in the archive — substantial enough to anchor a full living room, primary bedroom, or dining space as the dominant floor element. Mounted vertically it becomes a monumental textile work — the continuous diamond eye pattern reads as architectural at this scale with the gradient running vertically like a sunset.
Recommended companion objects: honed travertine, matte plaster, light-toned raw oak. The rose and berry registers also perform exceptionally well against blackened steel and contemporary minimalist concrete for a warm-meets-industrial contrast.
Use cases: primary living room rug · master bedroom anchor · dining room statement · monumental wall hanging · bohemian reading room centerpiece

Care & conservation
Hand-spun sheep wool is naturally soil-resistant and durable. For routine care shake gently outdoors and air periodically in indirect sunlight. Spot clean only with cool water and a mild pH-neutral wool detergent — never hot water or harsh chemicals as the organic dyes may bleed. Avoid high-suction vacuuming directly on the surface — this can stress the hand-loomed diamond eye weave over time. Professional dry cleaning only if necessary — specialist in antique or oriental textiles only. Never machine wash or tumble dry.
This piece has survived decades of authentic use in the Andean highlands. With proper care it will outlast most things in your home.
